Treasury

Token treasury management for projects

A project treasury is the token and capital a project holds to fund itself. Treasury management is executing on those holdings without moving the project's own market, and planning around the unlock schedule set at TGE. EchoTrade coordinates it with the Market Making so the two never work against each other on the same venues.

What it covers

How are large trades executed without moving the price?

Large trades worked over time so they do not print against the project's own order book.

How do you prepare for unlock dates?

Known unlock dates prepared for in advance. The market watches those dates and prices them in, so being ready for them is not optional.

What does the treasury actually cover at current burn?

What the treasury actually covers at current burn, and what a move in token price does to that number. Useful before it becomes urgent.

Why should treasury and Market Making be coordinated?

Treasury activity and Market Making planned together. Run separately, the two end up working against each other on the same venues.

How it works

01

Execution

When should a project trade off the order book instead of on it?

When the trade is large relative to the book's depth.

A treasury sale that is a multiple of the resting liquidity within 2% of mid will walk the price down and widen the spread, and every holder sees it. Worked over time, or executed off-book with a counterparty, the same sale leaves the public book untouched.

The decision rule, with the numbers, is in when to trade OTC instead of the order book.

02

Unlocks

What does an unlock do to the order book?

It is priced in before it happens.

Traders read vesting schedules, and a cliff date with a large allocation behind it shows up as thinning bids in the days before. The work is to know the date, know how much of the unlock is likely to be sold, and have the depth and the execution plan in place before it, not on the day. We ask for the unlock schedule at onboarding for this reason.

03

Custody

Who holds the assets?

The project does.

EchoTrade never takes custody of a project's tokens or treasury. Execution runs through the project's own accounts and multisig, with our desk advising on timing, venue and size. The account and permission structure is described in Market Maker custody and API keys.

04

Runway

What does runway planning involve?

A simple model:

what the treasury covers at the current monthly spend, and what it covers if the token falls by half. Most projects have not run the second number. Knowing it before it matters is what turns a bad month into a planned one instead of an emergency sale into a thin book.

Tokenomics decisions that shape this are in the tokenomics guide.

FAQ

No. Assets stay in the project's accounts and multisig. We advise and execute against a plan the project approves.

No. EchoTrade is paid for the work, not through the token: we do not take token loans, call options or profit share, so the desk has no position in where your price goes.

Yes. Payment is usually 100% in stablecoins or a 50/50 mix of the project's token and stablecoins, the same as for Market Making. Where part of the fee is paid in the token, its sale is planned like any other treasury sale, so it never lands on your own book at once. Payment timing is covered in can you pay a Market Maker after the listing.

No, but the two are planned together. Market Making keeps two-sided quotes on the book every day; treasury work is the project's own buying and selling, timed around unlocks and runway. Run separately, they end up working against each other on the same venues, which is why we coordinate them when we run both.
